Shampoo Ginger (Awapuhi) - Zingiber zerumbet

from $8.00

Shampoo Ginger is one of our favorite food forest plants! It grows extremely well during Florida’s hot, humid rainy summers and produces beautiful red flower bracts that can be squeezed to produce a natural “shampoo”.

GROWING DETAILS: Shampoo Ginger is a seasonal plant; it will sprout in late spring, grow throughout the summer and go dormant in the fall/winter. It requires filtered sunlight or dappled shade for optimal growth, making it an ideal understory plant. It tends to produce more of the characteristic red cones when growing in shady, moist conditions.
