Sorghum Sudangrass SEEDS (Super Sugar)

$6.00
sold out

Sorghum Sudangrass is an excellent support species for the food forest. It’s commonly used for cover crop/grazing purposes as it grows extremely fast and produces an abundance of biomass with high protein and sugar content (especially this Super Sugar variety). It’s more of an annual grass and will naturally die back in the winter, making it much easier to manage compared to Napier Grass or Mexican Sunflower.

Uses: It can be used in a wide variety of ways in a food forest/agroforestry context. Our favorite way to use it is mixed with other cover crop species like Sunn Hemp & Cowpeas and broadcasted onto an area that has been recently cleared. This cover crop mix will grow densely and outcompete noxious weeds, leaving the area much more manageable and with more biomass/fertility to start a garden or food forest system. It can also be scattered around young tree seedlings to help buffer the elements and provide nutritious “green manure” to the baby trees.

Site Preference: Prefers full sun and can tolerate poor soils.

Caution: These seeds are for planting purposes only! Do not consume or feed to animals as they are treated for insects and fungi making long-term storage possible.
